Dr. Reddy’s to End Novartis India Distribution Partnership

Key Highlights:

  • Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories has agreed to terminate its February 2022 agreement with Novartis India covering the distribution and promotion of select brands in India, following a change in Novartis India’s controlling shareholding.
  • Dr. Reddy’s will continue to commercialize the brands covered under the agreement through September 30, 2026, after which the partnership will end. The original pact gave Dr. Reddy’s exclusive rights to promote, distribute and sell specified Novartis India products.
  • Following the termination, Novartis India will regain exclusivity and market access for the affected products. The companies have not disclosed the financial impact or provided a complete list of brands covered by the agreement.

Implications:

For Novartis India, bringing these brands back in‑house supports a more controlled go‑to‑market under new PE ownership and aligns with its plan to install a new management team and reset strategy. For Dr Reddy’s, the impact is a loss of these in‑licensed distribution revenues from Q4 2026, but the short transition window and lack of disclosed financials suggest the arrangement was a modest, non‑core part of its domestic business mix.
