Key Highlights:
- Nucelion Therapeutics, a Bharat Biotech subsidiary, has partnered with VeGen Bio to transfer technology and manufacture cell therapies in India. The collaboration covers VL-2511, a Phase II dual-target autologous CAR-T therapy for multiple myeloma.
- VL-2511 targets BCMA and CD19 simultaneously to address antigen escape. The therapy has shown clinical activity, including in patients with extramedullary disease, alongside a company-reported favourable safety profile. It is also being investigated in POEMS syndrome and selected autoimmune disorders.
- Nucelion will provide process development, GMP manufacturing, cryopreservation and quality testing at its facility designed for CDSCO, US FDA and EMA standards. The partnership aims to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs and expand access to advanced cell therapies in India.
Implications:
Nucelion and VeGen Bio’s partnership could strengthen India’s domestic CAR-T manufacturing ecosystem by combining dual-target therapy development with GMP production capabilities. VL-2511’s BCMA/CD19 approach may help address antigen escape in multiple myeloma, while localized manufacturing could improve affordability and access. Clinical validation, scalability and regulatory compliance will determine its competitive potential.
