Shilpa CDMO Invests $50M to Expand Peptide Manufacturing Capacity in India

Key Highlights:

  • Shilpa CDMO is investing $50 million to expand its peptide manufacturing capabilities at its Raichur campus in India, adding 10 KL of solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) capacity to meet rising demand for GLP-1s and complex peptide therapeutics.
  • The expansion includes a fourth commercial manufacturing line, scheduled to open in December 2026, with annual production capacity of up to one metric tonne. Commercial supply is expected to ramp up through 2027.
  • The expanded platform will comprise six parallel cGMP manufacturing lines supporting SPPS, liquid-phase and hybrid synthesis, alongside complex peptides and conjugates. With this investment, Shilpa aims to support biotech and pharma partners from early development through commercial-scale production.

Implications:

Shilpa CDMO’s $50 million investment positions the company to capture growing demand for peptide manufacturing, driven by GLP-1 therapies and expanding oncology and rare disease pipelines. The additional 10 KL SPPS capacity and six parallel cGMP manufacturing lines could strengthen India’s position as a global peptide CDMO hub and attract outsourcing partnerships from biotech and pharmaceutical companies. The expansion also intensifies competition among contract manufacturers seeking to secure commercial-scale peptide production opportunities. Its ability to achieve capacity utilization and scale commercial supply from 2027 will be key to realizing the investment’s returns.
