ERS Genomics Limited Grants CRISPR/Cas9 License to Aurigene Pharmaceutical Services Limited

• ERS Genomics Limited announced a non-exclusive licensing agreement with Aurigene Pharmaceutical Services Limited, granting Aurigene access to ERS’ foundational CRISPR/Cas9 patent portfolio to support genome editing applications across its discovery platforms 

• Through the agreement, Aurigene will integrate precision genome-editing capabilities into its contract research, development, and manufacturing services to strengthen support for pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners across small molecule and biologics programs 

• The collaboration is designed to expand Aurigene’s capabilities in areas including target validation, disease model generation, and functional genomics, while providing access to foundational CRISPR/Cas9 intellectual property developed by Emmanuelle Charpentier and collaborators through ERS Genomics’ global licensing platform 

Implications: 

With legal access to the Charpentier CRISPR/Cas9 patents, Aurigene can now run gene‑editing projects (target validation, disease models, functional genomics) for global pharma and biotech clients, making its Indian-based platforms more competitive versus US/EU discovery shops. 

For ERS Genomics, Aurigene adds another major service‑provider licensee, extending the reach of its CVC patent estate into more outsourced R&D work and reinforcing its model of broad, non‑exclusive CRISPR licensing across tools, models, and bioproduction.
