Key Highlights:
- Bharat Biotech subsidiary Nucelion Therapeutics has partnered with Pandorum Technologies to support two PRIP-backed ophthalmology programmes targeting advanced keratopathy and wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
- Pandorum’s cell-free regenerative medicine platform uses designer exosomes to deliver biological signals that target inflammation, fibrosis and vascular dysfunction while supporting tissue repair. Nucelion will provide process development and manufacturing support.
- The partnership aims to enable GMP manufacturing for clinical studies in India and abroad, subject to regulatory approvals. The projects have a combined planned outlay of ₹16.97 crore, including up to ₹8 crore in PRIP scheme funding.
Implications:
The Nucelion–Pandorum partnership strengthens India’s domestic regenerative medicine ecosystem by combining designer exosome technology with GMP-aligned manufacturing capabilities. PRIP support could accelerate clinical translation and reduce reliance on overseas manufacturing, while reproducibility, regulatory approvals and clinical evidence will determine whether the platform can scale across corneal and retinal diseases.
